Vagadheeswari is a rare, complete (sampurna) vivadi melakarta whose lower tetrachord carries the shatshruti-rishabham with antara-gandharam pair (the notes g and G a semitone apart), giving it a slightly austere, unusual color rather than a broadly popular concert flavour. Its small but devotional repertoire is anchored by Muthuswami Dikshitar's "Bhogachhaya Natakapriye" (the Dikshitar-school name for the raga is Bhogachhaya Nata), Tyagaraja's "Paramatmudu Velugu," and Koteeswara Iyer's "Nadanu Santhana," with the raga's name evoking Vagdevi/Saraswati, the goddess of speech. Like other melakartas it has no fixed time-of-day association and is heard mainly in raga-alapana and main-piece elaboration rather than in light or fast contexts.

Gamaka

SwaraStyleHold allowedOscillationNotes
S steady yes Achala tonic sung plain and steady; the primary graha/nyasa anchor that opens and closes phrases.
g jaru no This is the shatshruti rishabham that sits at the sadharana-gandhara pitch a semitone below G3, so it is the raga's vivadi swara: it is not held flat but touched briefly and slid (jaru) upward, almost always taken as a pair with the adjacent G3, so it does not sound like a wrong or out-of-tune note.
G kampita yes Antara gandharam is the stable landing note into which the vivadi rishabham (g) leans; rendered fairly firmly, often with a light kampita approached from below, and can serve as a resting note in the lower tetrachord.
m kampita yes Shuddha madhyamam, a relatively stable note that can be sustained; usually carries a gentle kampita and acts as a secondary resting point in the madhya sthayi.
P steady yes Achala pancham sung plain and steady; an important nyasa/graha note that divides the two tetrachords.
D kampita yes Chatushruti dhaivatham, largely plain with a light oscillation, moving smoothly between P and the nishadam above.
n kampita no Kaisiki nishadam is characteristically shaken/oscillated rather than held flat, typically pulled toward the dhaivatham below, and is a key expressive note in descent (S N2 D2 P).
